BT SPORT have announced Robin van Persie as part of their pundit panel for next season – much to the horror of bitter Arsenal fans.
The 35-year-old hung up his boots in May after a spell at hometown club Feyenoord.
Stepping into the studio, van Persie was confirmed as part of the broadcaster’s line-up on Thursday.
BT released an online clip of his best moments at Manchester United, Arsenal and the Dutch national team.
It was at Old Trafford where he enjoyed his crowning success, winning the 2012/13 Premier League title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season at the club.
One of his teammates in that side, Rio Ferdinand, welcomed the news on Twitter.
The former England defender posted: “Worked with this guy once before and we won together – I’m sure we will recreate the same chemistry once again.
“Vast experience at various clubs & international level… Welcome to the BT Sport team.”
United paid £24m to snatch van Persie from rivals Arsenal, a switch which many Gunners fans are yet to forgive.
Few of them were happy to see the ex-striker pull on the shirt once again for BT’s announcement.
One commentor advised the channel: “Just wait until he pens a letter to viewers trying to explain his switch to Sky in a few years.”
Another Gunners fan described him as a: “World class snake.”
And one Twitter use joked “Well that’s BT Sport cancelled.”
Van Persie also incited Arsenal supporters back in May when wearing a half-and-half shirt featuring all four clubs he played for.
