AN APP that alters selfies to make their subjects appear far older has swept the internet this week.
Known as FaceApp, the fun software had celebs across the globe flooding fans’ timelines with “elderly” versions of their mugs.
But just how accurate are the app’s results? We’ve put FaceApp through the ultimate test by lining it up against old and new pics of A-List celebs.
Actors like Ian McKellen and Judi Dench bear striking resemblance to their FaceApp counterparts.
The clever app captured McKellen’s sunken eyes and the wrinkles around Dench’s eyes.
Also impressing is Harrison Ford’s FaceApp twin, who looks astonishingly similar to the actor today.
However, if you’re a fan of the royals, it may be best to look away now.
Prince Phillip and Her Majesty The Queen look a little worse for wear compared to their FaceApp doppelgangers.
As well as “ageing” themselves, selfie fans can use FaceApp to change genders, make themselves look younger or become “beautiful”.
Developed in St Petersburg, Russia, the app can also turn blank or grumpy expressions into smiling ones. And it can tweak make-up styles.

This is done with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). An algorithm takes the input picture of your face and adjusts it based on other imagery.
This makes it possible to insert a toothy smile, for instance, while adjusting lines around the mouth, chin and cheeks for a natural look.
Since the face-editing tool went viral, some have raised concerns over its terms and conditions.
They argue the company takes a cavalier approach to users’ data – but FaceApp said in a statement most images were deleted from its servers within 48 hours of being uploaded.
The company also said it only ever uploaded photos that users selected for editing and not additional images.
Others have speculated that FaceApp may use data gathered from user photos to train facial recognition algorithms.
This can be done even after the photos themselves are deleted.
That’s because measurements of features on a person’s face can be extracted and used for such purposes.
Here’s everything you need to know about FaceApp – including how it uses AI to make you appear older.
Fans of the app have been warned by the FBI that the Russian behind it may be spying on the West.
Last year, The Sun reported on how online pervs were using a computer app called “deepfakes” to create fake porn videos.
