ENGLAND’S world champion cricketers will tonight attend a glitzy No10 reception after Theresa May invited them to Downing Street.
The cricket-loving PM gushed over the team’s “brilliant performance” and this morning announced she would host a party for the squad.
The last time the England cricket squad were invited to 10 Downing Street, Andrew Flintoff peed in the garden as the players got blind drunk with Tony Blair.
Mrs May attended the Cricket World Cup final at Lord’s yesterday and saw England beat New Zealand in a thrilling encounter.
The two teams were tied at the end of the game and again after a “super over”, with England winning because they scored more fours and sixes.
The PM today praised the “brilliant performance by a brilliant team”.
She added: “They showed flair, courage and absolute determination to become world champions.
“The achievement delivered in such a thrilling style on home soil will live forever in our sporting history.
“It’s also exciting to think how many children will be inspired by this victory to pick up a bat for the first time for the first time.”
This evening the winning squad will party at No10 with Mrs May and her husband Philip.
In 2005, the Ashes-winning England team were invited to Downing Street by then-PM Mr Blair.
Star man Flintoff and other players later admitting peeing in the garden, while bowler Matthew Hoggard called their host a “k**b”.
