SEVERE turbulence on an Emirates flight from Auckland to Dubai left several passengers injured.
Footage uploaded on Twitter shows food trolleys knocked over, smashed bottles of champagne, and debris strewn across the plane.
A mum who was travelling on the flight said the turbulence caused her daughter to vomit and described the incident as “pretty scary”.
“We were lucky enough to be in business class. Cannot imagine what it was like down the back,’ Becky Lasenby told Stuff.
Another passenger, Beverley Glover, said she was badly bruised on both her legs in the turbulence.
She said about 30 minutes before it hit, she and her partner had been sitting in the lounge-bar area of the plane.
“We both would have been a lot worse for wear had we still been in that area and not back in our seats.”
Flight EK449 departed Auckland International Airport on July 10 and encountered “sudden and severe turbulence during the flight, about three hours before its scheduled arrival in Dubai, Emirates said.
“Unfortunately a few passengers and crew suffered minor injuries during this incident,” said a spokesman.
“First aid was administered and medical assistance was arranged for those who needed it on arrival.”
At least 37 passengers were left with head and neck injuries after smashing against the plane’s roof on an Air Canada flight from Vancouver to Sydney.
The plane was forced to land at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu on Thursday after the plane faced severe turbulence over the Pacific Ocean.
The flight, which was carrying 269 passengers and 15 crew members, was about two hours past Hawaii when it hit “unforecasted and sudden turbulence,” according to the airline.
