LEEDS want to sign Chelsea’s Jake Clarke-Salter on a season-long loan.
But the Whites fear new Blues boss Frank Lampard will snub their offer in revenge for Spygate.
Leeds believe Clarke-Salter can bolster their defence for another Championship promotion push after sending scouts to watch him captain the England Under-21s at their Euros.
The centre-back, 21, spent this season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland and Leeds were hopeful of doing a deal with Chelsea to take him for next term.
But Leeds now believe their chances of landing JCS could be scuppered by Lampard’s imminent return to Stamford Bridge as manager.
The ex-England midfielder is set to rejoin his old club after a season in charge of Derby, where he was involved in a number of run-ins with Leeds.
Lamps and his Rams were furious after a member of Leeds staff was caught spying on one of their training sessions ahead of their clash in March.
The pair then met in a dramatic play-off semi-final where Leeds fans taunted the Derby boss by singing “Stop crying Frank Lampard” as their team won the first leg at Pride Park 1-0.
Lampard then got his own back by dancing on the pitch and singing in his version of the chant after his Rams stormed back from conceding an early goal in the second leg to win 4-2 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate.
Derby lost the final 2-1 to Aston Villa but Lampard is now on the verge of taking over at Chelsea following Maurizio Sarri’s departure.
And with his bust-ups with Leeds still leaving a bitter taste in the mouth he may prefer not to boost their promotion hopes by loaning them Clarke-Salter.
