MICHAEL Eavis has long wanted Oasis to return as headliners to Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage – and this weekend he may get halfway to his wish.
I’m told the gobbier half of the Manchester rockers, Liam Gallagher, is planning a collaboration with The Killers as part of their headline set on Saturday night.
Liam, who is scheduled to perform just before Brandon Flowers and Co on the main stage that night, has been planning the surprise for several weeks.
It would not be the first time he has joined The Killers on stage, but if this latest plan goes ahead it would be the first time he has sung with the US rockers.
Last summer at Latitude Festival, in Suffolk, he popped up alongside the band but left them to rattle out the tunes, as Brandon sang Oasis track Acquiesce.
Liam invaded a Killers gig in Brazil last year, clearly after a few caipirinhas, but he didn’t sing on that occasion either.
A Glasto source said: “Liam is a big fan of Brandon and the lads and has got on stage with them a few times.
“But they got talking about doing a proper bit together, so have been speaking about doing something on Saturday night. As ever with Liam, things go right down to the wire, but both sides are keen to do something and Liam is on directly before The Killers.”
I’m told Michael and his daughter, Emily Eavis , had been interested in getting Liam to headline.
But in a rare moment of humility he told them he wanted to have a few more years as a solo artist before going up there alone.
The source added: “Oasis have headlined twice before but Liam didn’t want it to just be a tribute act — he wants to headline the festival when he feels he can play enough of his own music to justify it.
“Organisers were a touch surprised but he was still happy to be second on the bill.”
If Glasto wanted to book the next best thing to Oasis for a headliner, they must have accidentally called the wrong brother.
IF Maya Jama wanted to get boyfriend Stormzy in the right headspace for his headline set on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage, she’s going the wrong way about it.
The telly presenter has been dating the grime star for four years, but it was former One Direction singer Liam Payne, who she hopped into a taxi with after attending the Serpentine Summer Party in London’s Kensington Gardens on Tuesday.
Maya looked elegant but edgy at the bash, in a strapless navy ballgown that flashed a lot of leg. She clearly enjoyed herself, posting photos online of her holding a glass of wine and dancing. Later she filmed herself in the car with Liam as they left the event.
But keen to quash any rumours, yesterday she shared an old photo of herself and Stormzy on Instagram to prove they are still very much an item. Better luck next time, Liam.
LIL Nas X’s song Old Town Road has been the viral megahit of the year and he has now landed a slot on Glasto’s biggest stage.
The US rapper has been invited to the festival by Miley Cyrus who wants to do the track with him during her Sunday set after her dad Billy Ray appeared on a remix. Having been introduced by Billy, the pair held rehearsals on Tuesday in the US.
A music insider said: “Miley is super-hyped for her Glasto gig and wants it to draw a massive crowd.
“She’s aware a lot of revellers will be knackered come Sunday so is bringing maximum energy. She’s determined for it to be one of the most memorable of the weekend and thinks this duet will add the perfect twist. Her dad thinks it’s a genius move.”
Since releasing Old Town Road in December, Lil Nas X has spent 11 weeks at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 and two weeks at No1 here.
No wonder Miley wants his pulling power.
Miley, Ariana Grande and Lana Del Ray have announced a collaboration for the new Charlie’s Angels film. Miley tweeted: “WE ARE COMING!
IT is a decade this week since the death of Michael Jackson, but his sister Janet is torn over whether to mark it in public.
She fears a backlash if she mentions him during her performance at Glastonbury on Saturday, following child abuse allegations made against him earlier this year in the Leaving Neverland documentary. The singer has already cut their 1995 duet Scream from her setlist.
A source close to Janet said: “Regardless of everything that came out, Michael was still Janet’s brother. It’s obviously emotional.
“But she knows if she says anything on stage about him, it could cause tensions. Then again, she feels like there is still a lot of love for Michael and wants to say something.
“She’s in a bit of a conundrum over what to do.”
GLASTO hadn’t even kicked off on Tuesday night, but it looked like Charli XCX was already getting into the festival spirit.
The bleary-eyed Blame It On Your Love singer had to lean on pal Anne-Marie for support as she followed her out of the Serpentine Summer Party in London.
Anne-Marie wisely kept a clear head. She will be performing on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday afternoon after a stellar year which saw her debut album, Speak Your Mind, reach No3 in the charts.
Charli has all that to look forward to with her third album out later this year. At least knowing it is all done and dusted means she can spend the weekend partying.
IT’S clear Camilla Cabello’s fresh ex Matthew Hussey isn’t taking their break-up well after admitting he has a habit of obsessing over their rows.
I told yesterday how the Havana singer had split from the dating guru after 18 months together, days after releasing a steamy music video in which she danced with a topless Shawn Mendes.
But opening up about his feelings earlier this month, Matthew said: “I’m my own experiment all the time. I’d tell myself to be kinder to myself and not obsess over things I should have said or done differently in the relationship.
“Even today I have to wrestle with being the person who didn’t have the best reaction to something and really not letting it go.”
Speaking on the School Of Greatness podcast he added: “Mistakes can make relationships better if you improve from them, but not if you sit there consistently dwelling on them.”
