MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly failed in an attempt to sign Philippe Coutinho out of the star’s respect for Liverpool.
That is despite his former club’s supporters booing him during their Champions League semi-final triumph over the La Liga giants.
Coutinho, 27, is Barcelona’s most-expensive after switching to the Nou Camp from Anfield for £142m in January 2018.
But he has endured a miserable first full season with the Catalans, leading to him considering his future as several of Europe’s big guns plot a huge swoop.
United are one of those leading the chase, while Chelsea are also keen on the Brazilian attacker.
However Marca claims today he will reject any advances from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils.
They report Coutinho has informed his representatives to not even consider any offers from United due to their bitter rivalry with Liverpool.
The former Inter Milan ace is believed to be open to the idea of a return to the Premier League.
And another of today’s transfer stories claim he saw his future as Eden Hazard’s replacement at Chelsea.
But the Blues have been hit with a two-window transfer ban, scuppering any hopes of pushing through a deal this summer.
And that could open the door for Paris Saint-Germain to make their move.
There is still a lot of tension between PSG and Barcelona chiefs after the Neymar transfer saga two years ago which led to the Parisians activating the forward’s buyout clause to make him the world’s most-expensive footballer.
But Neymar is believed to desire a switch back to Barca – and that means Coutinho could potentially be used as part of a blockbuster move.
L’Equipe claimed on Sunday that PSG will be happy to accept “a large offer” for Neymar.
The Samba superstar is currently sidelined after suffering ankle ligament damage in a Copa America warm-up match for his country last month.
