ALMOST half of Tory members would be happy if Nigel Farage led their party, a fresh poll has revealed.
In a shocking display of how popular the Brexit Party boss is among Tories, research from YouGov showed 46 per cent would be happy to see him steer their own ship.
56 per cent of those who backed him voted for Britain to leave the EU in 2016, it also revealed.
This is despite 87 per cent of them thinking that the Brexit Party was a threat to their own organisation.
The analysis showed that the membership of the party has crossed party lines in favour of finally delivering Brexit too.
63 per cent said they would rather see Scotland become independent and 59 per cent said they wouldn’t mind if Northern Ireland left the UK – as long as Brexit was delivered.
Significant damage to the economy would be better than not leaving at all either, 61 per cent said.
The only thing they thought worse than not seeing through our EU exit would be letting Jeremy Corbyn into No10 as PM, they said.
Most think that finally upholding the 2016 result would give the party another election win, but failing to do so will ruin their chances of governing for good.
NIGEL Farage has vowed to reject any offer of forming an electoral pact with the Tories – because he doesn’t “trust” them to deliver Brexit.
He confirmed that “a couple” of Tory donors had asked him about the prospect of forming an agreement not to stand in Tory-Labour marginals in return for Tories not standing in certain Brexit Party target seats.
But he told the Daily Express that his Brexit Party’s support in a General Election was “not up for grabs”.
“Why would I trust anyone in the Conservative party?” he asked.
“I can understand why they want to buy me off but the lack of trust means it’s not up for grabs.”
Previously Mr Farage told The Sun Online he was interested to see whether he might be able to work with any of the Brexiteer candidates – including Boris, Esther McVey or Dominic Raab.
Mr Johnson is the favourite going into today’s second round of voting with MPs.
Tories were reduced to just eight per cent in the EU elections earlier this month as the Brexit Party stormed ahead to win.
The Tory leadership contest is now in full swing to replace Mrs May as PM – with the final two set to go up against each other for the votes of the Tory members from next week.
