THE bookies have suspended betting on the colour of the Queen’s hat for day 1 at Royal Ascot after a cheeky punter rumbled her outfit.
Coral reported a Windsor punter piled on yellow at 5-1 and bookies have since run for cover.
Yellow had been the 5-1 second favourite, behind blue at 4-1, when the betting opened up last week.
After the female customer opened a new online account and requested the four-figure bet on yellow, the firm took the decision to suspend betting, fearing the lady had had a cheeky sighting as the Queen made her way to Ascot.
Coral’s Nicola McGeady said: “A bet of this amount has instantly set alarm bells ringing, as the average bet on the colour of the Queen’s hat is around £5.
“Last year, we were forced to suspend betting on the colour of the Queen’s hat after a significant gamble in the Windsor area, and this year’s gamble suggests that someone outside the palace knows more than we do once again.”
Just, could it have been Prince Phillip?
