PEOPLE waste more than two hours a day on pointless tasks as they file paperwork, attend unnecessary meetings and grapple with outdated computers.
Some 142 minutes in a typical seven-and-a-half hour working day is spent on unimportant jobs and trying to get equipment to work.
So if you’ve just been yelling at your computer trying to get it to work for the past hour, you’re not alone.
Some of the pointless tasks which take up people’s days are filing paperwork, which takes up 29 minutes, 24 minutes is spent on filling out manual documents, and 26 minutes is spent trying to make old technology work.
Nearly half of the employees asked – 44 per cent – said their company uses outdated software and technology.
While 55 per cent admitted their time was taken up by chores and admin which isn’t their responsibility.
The study of 2,000 workers, carried out by Webexpenses, found the time wasted adds up 78 days a year.
Adam Reynolds, CEO and spokesman for Webexpenses, said: “Activities such as claiming expenses, processing invoices and auditing shouldn’t take much time at all, and yet for many businesses stuck in the dark ages, they are.
“As this study found, workers feel the brunt of a business which isn’t set up efficiently, as they spend hours and hours on tasks which could be done in half the time.
“Workers are understandably frustrated that they are unable to carry out the jobs they are being paid to do, as they are spending too much time on pointless processes.”
Some 35 per cent said they waste hours trying to clear out their email inbox, while 18 per cent said there was no efficient way of booking meetings.
And all the time wasting was taking its toll on workers, with 43 per cent admitting they were dissatisfied with their work.
The average British employee earns £29,588 a year, meaning companies are losing out £8,525 per staff member as they fritter their time away on pointless tasks.
Meanwhile one company offered women extra money if they wore short skirts to work.
And women were horrified by ‘sexist’ guide on ’30 ways to keep your husband’.
