A SHOCK new Love Island twist has been branded cruel by former stars — after two lads were left facing the boot within the first 24 hours.
Sherif Lanre, 20, was the first to suffer humiliation when none of the women wanted him.
He ended up with pharmacist Anna Vakili, 28, following a process of elimination, as the other stars paired off.
Then two surprise male contestants — Curtis Pritchard, 23, and Tommy Fury, 20 — were brought in.
They have been given 24 hours to pick partners which means two men tomorrow night are likely to be booted off, with Sherif most at risk. Islanders must be coupled up to stay on the show.
Last night former contestant Marcel Somerville — who failed to be selected by the women in 2017 — told The Sun: “It’s going to be very stressful for Sherif, who’ll be thinking, ‘No one likes me.’
“All that went through my head was ‘This is going out on TV. Everyone will see this happen.’ It is 100 per cent one of the cruellest moments of the entire show.”
ITV2 has introduced policies this year to try and protect the Islanders from any mental health issues.
Contestants have had “pre-filming psychological and medical assessments” and will also get long-term access to counselling. The procedures were brought in following the deaths of former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis.
But Marcel said: “Potentially two of them this year will be going home from the get-go, which is a cruel thing to do. When I was there we had two days in the villa before a new arrival.”
Last night’s Series Five opener saw Geordie beauty Amber Gill, 21, couple up with Welsh Callum Macleod, 28, while surfer Lucie Donlan, 21, paired with businessman Joe Garratt, 22.
