MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly offered Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt a £12.3million-a-year deal in an attempt to snare him away from Holland.
The Red Devils are battling Barcelona for the signature of the teenage defender, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men recently given hope in their quest to nab him.
According to Sport, United are willing to pay De Ligt £240,000-a-week as they aim to bolster their leaky defence.
The news outlet claims that Barca are not prepared to get into a wage war and will not match the terms that the Premier League side are offering.
While they also state that the Catalan club wants the 19-year-old to show a ‘change of attitude’ and to stop asking for more money.
It has previously been reported that the centre-back wants to be the poster boy of United’s rebuild and knows he will guaranteed a starting spot at Old Trafford.
Ajax boss Erik ten Hag recently revealed that De Ligt will leave in the summer as he mentioned that Bayern Munich are also a possible option for the defensive stalwart.
He told German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung: “There is zero chance that De Ligt will continue at Ajax.
“There are too many clubs interested in him. He will leave us this summer.
“But I don’t know if he will go to Bayern or Barcelona.”
