HER MUM is responsible for one of the UK’s biggest lingerie companies, and it looks as though Michelle Mone’s daughter has been blessed with the same business skills.
Rebecca, 26, from Scotland, has successfully taken over her mum’s tanning business and has transformed it into a £2 million company in just five years.
Baroness Mone passed on her company Utan to her daughter back in 2014 after selling her shares in her £40 million underwear company.
But with nothing more than a name Rebecca was tasked with building the company up from scratch, devising unique products to compete with the competitive tanning market.
She has since launched a range of coconut water fake tan as well as the viral tanning gummies with the company bagging three beauty awards within the first six months of Rebecca becoming CEO.
But despite admitting she has a “natural flair” for business, Rebecca was initially reluctant to follow in her mum’s footsteps.
Speaking to the MailOnline she said: “I saw the struggles and strain first hand and didn’t want to end up doing what they did – yet here I am.”
Rebecca took an unorthodox approach avoiding a business plan altogether, but it seems it has paid off.
She explained: “I just put my whole focus on making the product formulas perfect- I thought, if I love them and my friends and family do, others will too.
“I shared my ideas and Mum was so impressed she decided to take a step back and let me take the lead.”
After breaking a £1 million turnover last year, the company is now set to double that thanks partly to the launch of the unique tanning gummies which tan from “the inside out.”
In March Utan launched a brand new version of their cult sweets, Vacay Gummies, in a Sex On The Beach cocktail flavour.
After their Tan Gummies proved a hit with celebs, such as Holly Hagan the makers have brought out an even stronger teddy – still at £18.
Baroness Mone is a Scottish entrepreneur and parliamentarian.
She founded lingerie company Ultimo in 1996 at the age of just 25 in a bid to make a comfortable, yet cleavage-enhancing bra.
Together with her then husband Michael Mone they founded MJM International and built it up into a £39million business.
Mone sold all of Ultimo in 2014, describing her 17 years at the helm as a “roller coaster ride”.
In April 2018 she expressed her disappointment that Ultimo would cease trading in the UK.
Since her resignation she has launched tanning brand Utan.
She has also launched her own interior design company Michelle Mone Interiors, aimed at hotels and net worth individuals.
Baroness Mone’s net worth is not known but is estimated at around £20million.
Her fiancé Douglas Barrowman is worth an estimated £1billion.
Mone is one of the highest paid business speakers in the UK, charging up to £25,000 per speech within the UK.
Designed to be taken three days before your sun-soaked getaway, the gummy bear is sugar-free and is said to be fast acting.
They can be taken alongside regular tan gummies, and the makers recommend taking three to four bears a day in the run up to your holiday to achieve maximum tan.
Differing from the original, Vacay Gummies are designed to be taken a few days before guaranteed sunshine, as they only work with UV rays.
They contain high doses of the building blocks of melanin – which makes skin go darker.
