CORONATION Street fans think Steve McDonald will be blamed and go to prison for the petrol station knife attack after he failed to call the police in Friday’s episode.
The StreetCars boss landed himself in a whole world of trouble when he picked up a passenger from the side of the road, risking his taxi licence.
Steve (Simon Gregson) is planning to buy a house with Tracy but is already struggling to raise the cash with bookings going downhill at the firm.
Tracy told him to take customers from the street, but it ended in disaster when a man approached his car asking for a lift to the hospital to visit his sick mum.
Steve initially refused but then gave in, and he only started to suspect foul play when the bloke asked him to go in a different direction to the hospital.
Moments before, they’d stopped at a petrol station to allow the man to buy flowers for his mum – and viewers got to see the robbery unfold.
Steve’s car faced the other way and the man wore a balaclava as he demanded cash from the till.
He then told Steve to drive down a deserted road and took him hostage at knife point.
The attacker revealed the petrol station didn’t have CCTV, and let Steve go unharmed when he begged for his life for the sake of his kids.
Steve returned to Tracy and told her everything, and the pair agreed not to call the police because Steve could lose his licence and their dreams of buying a bigger house.
Now, fans are convinced that Steve’s taxi car number will lead the police to his door.
One fan said: “They’ll think Steve was in on it because he’s skint so cue another boring story about someone being accused of something they didn’t do by the useless soap cops”
Another wrote: “the guy in the petrol station will say he saw steve’s face and that it was him with the knife and steve gets 4 years for nothing lol”
One more wrote: “well this is obviously going to backfire in Steve’s face.”
Other viewers were amazed that Steve didn’t try to run away or drive off when the attacker told him to get out of the car beneath a bridge.
One said: “how about you jump in car and drive off Steve? That quarter tank will get you to police station daft as”
