WITH the eyes of the world on Meghan and Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in a rain-soaked North Wales today for a trip down memory lane.
Kate and William, the proud uncle of the royal family’s latest addition, lived in North Wales when they were first married.
The royal visitors, who said they hope to meet the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s newborn son in the next few days, will visit Caernarfon and Anglesey during today’s visit.
Their first visit today was the Caernarfon Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter Base.
Until 2015, search and rescue operated out of RAF Valley on Anglesey, where the duke worked as an RAF search and rescue pilot between 2010 and 2013.
They viewed the Coastguard’s new Sikorsky S92 helicopters and mingled with members of the search and rescue team, many of whom previously worked alongside William at RAF Valley.
They will later join a discussion with crew members about the mental health challenges that result from working as first responders, and will also meet staff from the Wales Air Ambulance, which operates next door to Caernarfon Search and Rescue.
Next they will visit the island of Anglesey to travel to Halen Mon Anglesey Sea Salt, a thriving local business which has been operating for more than two decades, and which won the Queen’s Award for Sustainability in 2017.
The duke and duchess will see the salt-making process from hand harvesting to packaging, and will learn more about Halen Mon’s collaborations with other local food producers and their involvement in community initiatives.
It comes as Harry and Meghan proudly showed off their baby son to the world for the first time, describing him as having the “sweetest temperament”.
The royal couple could not hide their delight as they posed for pictures with the tiny infant in the majestic St George’s Hall in Windsor Castle, just two days after he was born.
The duchess declared: “It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing. I have the two best guys in the world so I’m really happy.”
