THE battle for the Iron Throne will finally kick off in the fifth episode of season 8 of Game of Thrones, as Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister’s armies face off.
But with Danys army being weakened by the Battle of Winterfell and only one dragon left alive, can the wannabe Queen actually achieve her life-long quest? Here’s everything we know about season eight episode five…
The 30-second clip has no voiceover, with the dramatic scenes instead being teased to the sound of tense music and a ticking clock as it focuses on the suspense leading to the final fight.
Tyrion can be seen tentatively approaching his Queen in the map room of Dragonstone as Jon Snow and Ser Davos arrive at the Red Keep.
Meanwhile the Golden Company are fresh-faced and ready to fight for Cersei.
Cersei is characteristically smug and looks confident about the impending battle, with some comparing her look of glee to her behaviour when she orchestrated a wildfire explosion that killed several key characters in the season six finale.
However, it is the final second that grabbed viewers’ attention, with Euron Greyjoy staring up at the sky – and a look of concern and fear slowly sweeping across his face. Could there be new dragons, or has Rhaegal risen from the dead? Maybe Drogon has some new armour!
Game of Thrones’ penultimate episodes are traditionally the most epic, gruesome and shocking of all – with Ned Stark’s execution, The Red Wedding, and The Battle of the Bastards all taking place in the second-to-last instalment of their respective series’.
The latest episode (season 8, episode 5) of Game of Thrones will air on May 13, 2019 at 9pm on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
It first airs at 2am on the television network before being repeated at 9pm in the evening, for those who couldn’t stay up to watch in the early hours of the morning.

The eighth and final series is only made up of six episodes so the end really is nigh.
As the final ever episode of Game of Thrones looms ever closer, fans are starting to freak out over the possibility that all the characters we’ve obsessed over aren’t going to make it out alive.
One of the most famous phrases in the show is the high Valyrian saying Valar Morghuli.
As many of you know, that means, “All men must die”, and it is the customary saying in Essos.
Actor Liam Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos Seaworth, all but admitted the famous phrase could be the key to the show’s ending during an appearance on The Late Late Show.
“We’re all going to die. Don’t forget ‘Valar Morghulis,’ which is one of the phrases on the show which means ‘all men must die’,” he said ominously.
The phrase also has a traditional reply that translates to “all men must serve.”
And the way things are going, we won’t be surprised if Cersei goes full one “Mad Queen” and decides that if she can’t have the throne then no one else ever will.
Or maybe the Night King might still find a way to have the last laugh from beyond the grave!
Yes, Game of Thrones bosses filmed multiple endings for the cult fantasy drama’s big series finale to prevent key plot details leaking online.
The secrecy surrounding the series’ ending was taken to a whole new level.
Producers have even kept cast members in the dark about which characters live or die.
Talking to Vulture, Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, revealed that they also shot fake scenes.
She said: “We shoot fake scenes. We got into costume in Croatia because we know the paparazzi lurk around there, so we would spend like half a day doing nothing.”
Kit Harington admitted that he cried when he read the final script, and also revealed that there was a secret episode of the show that will never air.
He revealed: “They say, if I ever p**s them off too much, they’ll release it on YouTube.
“Every now and then, they send me a screengrab, just as a threat.”
The Great Battle of Winterfell saw the loss of beloved characters Lyanna Mormont, Jorah Mormont, Theon Greyjoy, Melisandre, Beric Dondarrion, Eddison Tollett and Qhono (alongside the rest of the Dothraki).
The battle raged on for a whole 82 minutes and saw all our favourite characters struggling to keep the seemingly unstoppable army of the dead at bay.
Thanks to the surprise return of Melisandre, they had a bit of help from the Lord of Light along the way.
And after some words of encouragement from Melisandre, Arya realised exactly what she needed to do to end the war.
When the red priestess reminded her she was destined to close “blue eyes forever” and said: “What do we say to the God of Death?”
Arya replied: “Not today”.
She then set her sights on killing the ice-eyed monster.
Just seconds before the Night King was able to take his swords and kill Bran, he turned around and caught Arya by the throat in mid-air.
Despite fears he was about to crush her to death, she stabbed him through the abdomen and he turned into a crumbled heap of ice.
And just as they had hoped, the Night King’s entire army fell with him.
It came as a major relief for viewers because things had been looking so bleak in the burning ancestral home of House Stark as the Army of the Dead triumphed over the living.
Game of Thrones season 8 premiered in the UK on Monday, April 15, at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.

The final series will be the shortest in Game of Thrones’ history with just six episodes, following on from the seven in season seven.
It’s not available for viewing on Netflix.
