LUCIFER left fans stunned in the final episode of season three, having killed Chloe’s ex-fiance and subsequently revealing his true devil face to her for the first time.
With the TV programme having moved to Netflix, here are all the details you need regarding season four and when you can watch it…
Lucifer season four will officially be released on Netflix on May 8, 2019.
All ten episodes, which run for an estimated 42 minutes each, will be available for immediate streaming on the platform.
The release date was confirmed on April 10, 2019, in the form of a video clip that was posted on the official Netflix @seewhatsnext Twitter account.
“Season 4 hits Netflix in 666 hours!” the tweet read.
The teaser showed a very handsome Tom Ellis emerging from a swimming pool before directly staring into the camera as he helps himself to a glass of brown liquor.
At the beginning of the season, Lucifer’s wings have returned and he’s in an outraged manner he cuts them off – only to see them grow back again.
Maze is seen heading to Canada to catch a dangerous bounty but everything turns upside down when she learns that the guy she’s after had been framed.
In the midst of seeing the two flirt with one another, we see a file with the name Gaudium on it.
Later on in the series, Amenadiel tells Lucifer that he’s not evil, stressing that he punishes evil instead.
Pierce gets shot in episode four but survives to – once again – confound Chloe another day.
The real Charlotte Richards returns back to Earth but has a hard time adjusting to her new life while coping with memories of her time in hell.
A reporter attempts to get revenge on Lucifer but sees his entire life destroyed in the process. In episode seven, we learn that the reporter was actually Dr. Linda’s ex-husband.
Charlotte makes the effort to become a better person to avoid being sent back to hell. She ends up quitting her private firm to join the DA’s office.
Close to midway through the series, we are introduced to Sinnerman. Lina and Amenadiel finally kiss and Maze gets super jealous about it.
The Sinnerman gouges out his eyes so that Lucifer can’t get him to talk, which made for quite the disturbing scene.
There’s a flashback to Lucifer returning to Earth and it involves a lost Amenadiel necklace, a porn shoot, and a close encounter with Chloe.
Later in the series, Maze becomes super frustrated that Pierce had backed out of their deal.
Lucifer admits that he wanted Chloe to choose him over Pierce – someone she became close to when Lucifer showed little to no interest.
It’s disturbing to see him watch Pierce pop the big question and propose to Chloe later on, knowing how bad he wants to be with her.
After an amazing bachelorette party, Chloe unsurprisingly cancels her wedding. Meanwhile, Dan and Charlotte are still together and going strong.
By episode 23, Maze and Pierce are back to their old ways of plotting while Lucifer and Chloe finally get to kiss.
Charlotte shockingly takes a bullet that was meant to have been for Amenadiel. His wings happen to return, subsequently allowing him to fly her to heaven.
Dan is heartbroken by Charlotte’s death while Linda and Maze make up following their differences earlier in the series.
Lucifer protects Chloe from a hail of bullets with his wings in probably one of the most exhilarating scenes of the series.
Lucifer ends up killing Pierce/Cain, and Chloe sees his true identity while accepting that everything he had told her is real.
It’s presumably one of the biggest cliffhangers the show has ever seen.
And luckily it’s now back with its fourth series on Netflix!
Season four will explore Chloe’s relationship with Lucifer in greater detail.
At the end of season three, Chloe struggled to come to terms with Lucifer having revealed his true devil face to her.
And co-showrunner Modrovich, in a recent interview concerning the new series, says that viewers will be sent on quite the “journey” as the season progresses.
Speaking to TV Line, he said: “She wouldn’t just accept it right away. She’s going to go through all the emotions that we’ve been through, the audience”.
“For her to be able to see his struggle, every single side of him, and she is going to feel a little bit like what he says in the penultimate episode, which is ‘I feel like you’ve seen one side of me.’”
It’s also suggested that because the show has officially moved to Netflix, there’s the freedom for producers to be more graphic with their content.
And according to Tom Ellis, fans could very well get a semi-nude shot of the actor later on in the series.
He jokingly told Entertainment Weekly: “I think Joe Henderson, our showrunner, has been adamant that he wants to have my bum on screen for three seasons and now we can finally do that.”
