This is the moment a giant apocalyptic ‘mothership’ looms over the skies during a raging storm.
It shows what appears to be a giant cloud form a circle in the sky slowly whirring around like a spaceship.
Cars on the country road seem to go by unfazed while the cloud continues to circle above.
The incredible footage, which looks like a scene from the film Independence Day, was shot in in Amarillo, Texas, in the U.S.
But experts say the phenomenon is actually a supercell storm – a violent thunderstorm which can produce giant hailstones.
These hailstones can sometimes be bigger than baseballs, bring damaging winds and even tornadoes.
The person who filmed the cloud told Newsflare: “This high-based, beauty of a storm was long tracked, making its way across the Panhandle for several hours.
“It created a hype among the cities and towns it passed near.
It flooded social media with its majestic form
Videographer
“I decided to get a quick time lapse of the cell as it approached, making sure the quality was as crisp as possible.
Supercells form due to updrafts of warm and moist air, which rises and condenses, as well as strong downdrafts.
They are a special type of storm which maintains an intense steady-state for a number of hours.
But while they look fascinating, they can be incredibly dangerous as they can centre on mesocyclones, which deliver torrential rain and high winds.
Known as the ‘mother of tornadoes’ they can be up to six miles wide and produce as many as 60 tornadoes.
