LINE Of Duty fans were shocked to see EastEnders legend Sue Tully was behind last night’s dramatic episode.
The original Michelle Fowler directed the tense fifth installment of series five – much to viewers’ delight.
After noticing Sue’s name appear as the credits rolled, fans quickly shared their bemusement on Twitter.
One wrote: “I love that tonight’s #LineOfDuty has been directed by Sue Tully aka the original Michelle Fowler!”
Another tweeted: “Did anyone else notice that Sue Tully who played Michelle Fowler in @bbceastenders directed @Lineofdutyuk @BBCOne #LineOfDuty.”
A third quipped: “Line of Duty is directed by Michelle Fowler????? #LineOfDuty.”
A further chimed: “Just watching #LOD #LineOfDuty on catch-up. Can’t believe this episode tonight was directed by Susan Tully, aka Michelle Fowler from @bbceastenders.”
Sue played teen mum Michelle in the long-running British soap from 1985 to 1995 – and even appeared in the very first episode.
As well as directing last night’s instalment of the hard-hitting BBC crime drama, Sue is also the driving force behind this weekend’s highly-anticipated 90-minute finale.
The first four episodes were the work of John Strickland, who worked with Line of Duty writer Jed Mercurio on Bodyguard.
The actress-turned-director landed her first directing job on EastEnders in the 90s and has gone to helm a number of TV shows, including Silent Witness, Britannia and Musketeers.
And she didn’t disappoint with her work on last night’s intense Line of Duty episode.
Viewers were on tenterhooks as they watched Ted Hasting’s (Adrian Dunbar) passive aggressive interview with Patricia Carmichael (Anna Maxwell-Martin).
