AUSTRALIA’S worst female serial killer broke down in court today as she recalled how supermarket clairvoyant told her she was surrounded by the “happy” spirits of the four babies she murdered.
Kathleen Folbigg, 51, was sentenced to at least 25 years in jail in 2003 for the manslaughter and murder of her children Patrick, Laura, Sarah and Caleb.

Now, for the first time in 16 years, Folbigg has made a public appearance in court, defending diary entries she made at the time and insisting she didn’t kill her children.
Breaking down in tears, she said she “misses them all the time” and “never stops” searching for the reason her babies died.
She also admitted to seeing a supermarket clairvoyant in a desperate attempt to find answers.
Prosecutor Chris Maxwell grilled Folbigg on a diary entry from August 1996, when she described visiting the clairvoyant.
The clairvoyant allegedly said she saw children around Folbigg, who “were all happy and everything was okay”.
In her diary, Folbigg wrote: “They seem content now, because I now know — even though I’m responsible — it’s all right.”
In court, she added: “I was pleased that she said she had seen children around me.
“I concluded they were mine… and I used to always worry about their spiritual wellbeing as to whether they were content or at peace.”
“I didn’t kill my children and these diaries are just a record of how depressed I was, and how many issues I was having.”

THE DIARY ENTRIES
Folbigg was accused of destroying personal diaries that allegedly contained evidence of her actions during 1989 and 1999, when all four children passed away.
At one point she became so emotional during court proceedings that they had to adjourn for several minutes while she had a glass of water.
When court resumed, she said: “I don’t know why any of my children died, but I didn’t kill them.
“I didn’t kill my children and these diaries are just a record of how depressed I was and how many issues I was having.”
Mr Maxwell pushed the notorious child killer over the phrases she used in her diaries.
He asked her to clarify what phrases such as “dangerous mood” and “losing control” — which appeared in her diary — meant.
The 51-year-old hit back saying: “Dangerous mood means depression to me. When I’m depressed or a little cranky, don’t come near me.”
‘SNAPPING HER COG’
There was one phrase in particular that Maxwell kept pressing the convicted killer over — an entry in which she described “snapping her cog”.
In an entry where she wrote that she “missed” her daughter Sarah, Folbigg wrote how she takes the time to “figure out what is wrong instead of snapping my cog”.
She explained she had a “sleeping issue” with Sarah, which she had described in her diary as a “battle of wills”.

The diary entry stated: “Sarah doesn’t push my button anywhere near as much, which is good for her, that’s all I can say.”
Mr Maxwell said: “This is a child you say died in an unexplained way and yet here you are four years after a death, noting characteristics about her which snapped your cog.
“Do you see anything heartless about that?”
Folbigg replied that it was simply a diary “where I’m reflecting and comparing”.
She said she would write in diaries rather than talking to her then-husband Craig Folbigg as “a release” or to vent, an inquiry into her convictions has heard.
