PATRICK BAMFORD should be disgusted with his actions – and the FA should hit him with a two-match ban.
The FA panel should view this incident and charge Bamford for deceiving a match official for getting Anwar El Ghazi sent off.
El Ghazi made no contact at all with Bamford — there is no doubt Aston Villa will appeal their winger’s red card and it should be rescinded.
If Leeds forward Bamford is charged and found guilty, he will be given a two-match ban.
Bamford’s actions were embarrassing. It is appalling to throw yourself to ground clutching your face to get a fellow professional sent off.
I can understand Villa’s frustrations but I believe both clubs will be charged for failing to control their players for the brawl that followed.
Referee Stuart Attwell could not do anything about Leeds’ opener — normally it has to be a head injury for the referee to stop play.
It was a brilliant act of sportsmanship by Leeds to let Villa walk the ball in.
And the only one that didn’t seem to understand was Pontus Jansson – it was fantastic to see his own players set him straight.
AINSLEY MAITLAND-NILES was very unlucky to be sent off – and James Maddison can feel responsible.
Maddison’s reaction was poor as Maitland-Niles made no contact with his England Under-21 team-mate, but earned a second yellow card.
In real time it looks worse than it is, I would have managed that and given him a final warning.
But you can understand why Maitland-Niles received his first caution as it was a careless challenge and denied Leicester a promising attack.
It wasn’t an easy game for Michael Oliver to referee as both sets of players were niggly.
MARCOS ROJO would probably be sent off next season for his late challenge on Willian.
The Manchester United defender was lucky that Martin Atkinson deemed the challenge ‘reckless’ and not one with ‘excessive force endangering the player’s safety’.
It always looks worse slowed down but that could be upgraded to a red card with VAR in operation next season.
Rojo has a history of making very poor challenges but referees do not consider his reputation — they treat each incident on its merits.
You could argue Ander Herrera was fortunate to still be on the pitch at half-time.
His 16th-minute tackle on Eden Hazard denied the Chelsea forward a promising attack.
Herrera was lucky to get the benefit of the doubt from referee Atkinson when he could have been cautioned.
The Spaniard was then rightly shown a yellow card in the 43rd minute for a reckless challenge on Marcos Alonso.
IT was fortunate Manchester City got their winner, because they were earlier denied a clear penalty.
Ashley Barnes made a deliberate movement of his arm towards the ball after Bernardo Silva’s 49th-minute shot.
I can understand why Paul Tierney has not seen the incident because he has a lot of players in line with his viewing angle.
The assistant referee appeared to have a view and should have helped referee Tierney out.
