A RUGBY player has fought off 37,000 candidates to secure the apprenticeship of a lifetime where he is paid to travel the world.
Harry McNulty, 26, has been named Royal Caribbean’s Shore Explorer for 2019 which will take him on an all-expenses paid three week trip across the globe.
Harry will be presented with a cheque for £6,000 upon completion of his three week all expenses paid trip that will see him visit The Bahamas, Alaska, Portugal, Norway, Dubai and Japan.
After securing the role, Harry took to his Instagram page @saltynuts_ where he shared the news with his followers.
He wrote: “I’m not sure how I’ve done it, but I’ve managed to win the @royalcaribbeanuk #shoreexplorer and I’m absolutely over moon!
“So many amazing contestants and I was shocked to make the top 20 so to win is mind blowing! Can’t wait to get going!”
Unsurprisingly his followers were left green with envy with several female admirers offering themselves up as a travel buddy.
Instagram user amy_o_neill02 commented “Congrats so jealous… can I come?”
Harry cheekily responded “thanks so much Amy! You’ll have to ask royal Caribbean!”
Tailorjerry gushed “‘I’m not sure how I’ve done it’ probably because you’re the sexiest man alive and take amazing photos.”
And Messymidget wrote: “@saltynuts_ if you need an assistant hmu.”
The Dublin based winner was selected by judges including The Vamps band member James McVey and travel writer Nadia El Ferdaoussi.
Royal Caribbean launched the competition in February in search of an “extraordinary” candidate to capture their experiences and share it on Instagram with the help of Instagrammer-in-chief Russ Francis.
Explaining the role the company said: “A typical day will see you challenging what a ‘typical day’ is.”
The only necessary qualifications included a use of Instagram on a “daily basis”, an ability to produce stunning content and a “willingness to travel.”
This was something that Harry was more than qualified for having moved around a lot as boy.
Born in Bahrain, Harry went on to live in London, New York and later Tipperary, Ireland.
Writing on his Saltynuts website he explains: “My upbringing consisted of constant family holidays that I was blessed to have!

“I learned so much growing up around other cultures and new experiences and it’s something I have never taken for granted. Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Oman, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Maldives, are just some of the amazing places we visited together as a family.”
Applicants for the role were required to post an image or video on Instagram that showed their ability to use social media to tell a story.
The rugby player impressed the judges with his video montage of his previous travelling experiences.
Harry’s first task will be an induction on board Independence of the SeasSS when the ship returns to the UK next month.
There he will trail new experiences on board the ship, including the new 40-foot-long surf simulator and its bungee jump simulator.
