DANNY ROSE says he is grateful for the support he has received after revealing he cannot wait to quit football due to racism.
The Tottenham left-back told of his constant struggle against abuse after being targeted by Montenegro fans in England’s 5-1 Euros qualifying win last month.
His powerful words drew more attention to the ugly issue and Rose, 28, now hopes football’s bigwigs can create a plan to “eradicate” racism once the season finishes.
Rose said: “Obviously it’s been great.
“Despite what people think, I feel a bit uncomfortable with the headlines.
“But it is an unfortunate thing that’s happening now in football.
“We saw it at the weekend in the Championship, and it looks like it’s something that’s creeping back in.
“I had some great support throughout the week, and I hope that once the season’s finished people can sit down and discuss how to eradicate these unfortunate things that are happening now in football.
“It’s a shame, really. But I’ve had some great support and would like to thank everyone who’s shown me that support.”
Rose has urged football’s authorities to come down harder on racists.
The £60,000-a-week star sickeningly admitted he had fully prepared himself for abuse in Montenegro after being subjected to vile chants in Serbia in 2012.
Last week Rose said: “It’s a bit sad I should have to prepare for something like that.
“But when countries only get fined what I’d probably spend on a night out in London, what do you expect? When the punishment is not as harsh, what do you expect?
“You see my manager get banned for two games for just being in a confrontation with referee Mike Dean at Burnley. But yet a country can only get fined a little bit of money for being racist.
“It’s just a bit of a farce at the minute. So that’s where we are at in football and until there’s a harsh punishment there’s not must else we can expect.”
SunSport exclusively revealed neither the FA, Premier League, nor EFL keep official records of alleged incidents.
English football was dragged back into the gutter over the weekend after more players were racially abused.
A Brentford fan was arrested following claims Derby’s Duane Golmes was subjected to monkey chants.
Wigan’s Nathan Byrne was branded a “black filthy b******” and “slave c***” on Twitter.
And Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha was also labelled “a diving monkey”. The winger won a penalty in the Eagles’ 1-0 win over Newcastle.
Northampton’s Timi Max Elsnik also claimed several team-mates were abused during a pre-match walk outside their Nottingham hotel.
Managers have threatened to walk their players off the pitch as a response but Raheem Sterling believes that is the wrong course of action.
The Manchester City star, who has bravely stood up to racism this season, said: “I wouldn’t personally agree with walking off,” said Manchester City’s Sterling.
“To win the game would hurt them even more. They’re only trying to get you down.
“If you walk off they win. To score or win would be better.”
