THE LOOSE Women panel has slammed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to not announce the birth of their baby, describing the decision as “stage-managed.”
Kaye Adams lead the panel on Thursday’s show where she was joined by Brenda Edwards, Nadia Sawalha and Jane Moore.
The women began the show discussing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to keep the birth of their first born private until they’ve had a chance to celebrate with their family.
Speaking on the ITV daytime show Jane said: It’s such a weird thing, to make an announcement that you’re not going to make an announcement.
“What planet does that come from? I get the fact that she doesn’t want to come onto the steps of the hospital with the baby, if she doesn’t want to do that I get that completely.
“But if you’re going to have a baby at home what difference does it make to just tell people that you’ve had the baby? I don’t really understand what the issue is.”
She continued: “I think it’s very Hollywood to try and stage manage stuff and I think that’s one of the criticisms that there has been that the royal family has never been particularly stage managed.”
Nadia appeared to be in agreement arguing that the royal couple’s decision had actually invited more interest.
“I think if you’re trying to dissuade interest a bit, I think this just fuels it” she said, adding “just say the baby’s been born.
“They wanted us to be invested in the story, they had this big romantic wedding, we were and are invested in this and part of that story is that you’ve had a baby.”
Kaye Adams claimed that Harry and Meghan were sending out a clear message with the decision.
She said: “Obviously people are going to interpret the announcement in various different ways but the overall feeling is ‘back off.’”
In fact it was only Brenda who spoke up in defense of the couple with the singer saying: “I’m not too fussed about the fact that they want us to give them a bit of time, just let them enjoy their baby, there’s so much pressure on them.”
While the Loose Women criticised the announcement, several viewers were also supportive of the couple’s choice taking to Twitter to share their views.
“Everyone slated Kate for coming out of hospital wearing heels and taking pics, and now these b****es are slating Meghan and Harry for keeping it private ffs leave em alone!”
However, many were in agreement with Jane Moore.
One said: “I agree with Jane. Making an announcement to say there’s no announcement is a bit of an oxymoron. They basically want it to be private but still want everyone to be interested.”
A second added: “Harry and Meghan enjoy the privilege of bein Royal – they have a certain duty to keep the public informed.
“They shouldn’t pick and choose when they want attention and when they don’t. (sic)”
The news came today as Kensington Palace announced that the royal couple, who are expected to welcome their first child together this month, have made the ‘personal decision’ to avoid the public eye.
In a statement the palace said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby.
“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private.
“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”
