TOO DARN HOT is set to miss his intended comeback in this weekend’s Greenham Stakes at Newbury and is on the drift for the Guineas.
Trainer John Gosden announced on Wednesday evening that the plan is instead to take last year’s champion juvenile and 2000 Guineas odds-on ante-post favourite straight to the Classic at Newmarket.
Having won all four of his starts last season, anticipation was building at seeing him back in action on Saturday – but that will now have to wait until May 4
Gosden told the Racing Post: “Too Darn Hot breezed comfortably this morning under Frankie Dettori on the Al Bahathri but tonight at evening stables he was found to have some heat in his splint bone.
“Unfortunately he’ll have to miss Newbury as he’ll have a few easy days. The plan is to take him straight to the Qipco 2,000 Guineas.”
As a result of his absence on Saturday, bookmakers eased Too Darn Hot to 6-4 from evens for the 2,000 Guineas.
