READY for some nostalgia? The iconic teen thriller The Craft is being rebooted, with a modern remake of the film set to kick off this summer.
Blumhouse and Columbia Pictures have appointed actress Zoe Listed-Jones to write and direct the exciting new production – and while some are excited, not everyone knows what to make of it.
The original 1996 film followed the journey of four misfit teenage girls who, bored of their stuffy Catholic school, begin meddling with witchcraft.
Starring Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Rachel True – the fantastic foursome cast spells and curses against their enemies, and end up wreaking more havoc than they can handle.
After years of speculation that the teen horror was going to be remade, writer and producer Zoe, made her debut in 2017 with the indie film Band Aid, is in charge of bringing it back to life.
The 36-year-old also wrote, produced and starred in 2012 film Lola Versus, as well as having a role in the comedy series Life In Pieces.
The reboot, which will be co-written by Daniel Casey, will see the names of the main characters changed, but fans are hoping the story line stays true to the original.
Speaking about the original film, actress Neve Campbell admitted that she had no idea how popular it would become.
She told Entertainment Weekly: “I don’t think I had ever realised what a cult kind of movie it was. What a cult classic it was.
“I went to a 20-year reunion screening of The Craft – it was pretty insane. Everyone was in costumes, having a lot of fun, screaming the lines as the screen.”
Plans to bring the popular teen flick back to life were first revealed in 2015 by producer of the film Douglas Wick.
But other than knowing it’s about to happen, further details on the remake have been kept heavily under wraps – including who’s going to star in the lead roles.
Fans and sceptics have been taking to social media to voice their opinions – and already many are unsure it’s going to live up to the original.
One fan wrote: “The Cult is a film I’ve watched many times and thought they should definitely remake this – but that’s some shoes to fill.”
“Is there a reason to reboot The Craft?” one person asked. “Was something wrong with the movie? What am I missing?”
An angry lover of the original simply said: “We don’t need to remake a beloved classic!”
While one jokingly cast a spell: “I BIND YOU HOLLYWOOD from rebooting The Craft, rebooting it for others or rebooting it for yourself.”
This year also saw that remake of classic Disney film Dumbo by director Tim Burton, which hits cinema screens TODAY.
Plus, another classic teen show announced it will also be making a comeback, with Nickelodeon’s Drake and Josh rebooting their show.
