SOPHIE Gradon’s heartbroken mum is paying £2,500 to try and get her daughter’s two phones unlocked.
It comes after Mrs Gradon claimed police investigating Sophie’s death were unable to access her iPhone for extraction.
Writing on Twitter the bereaved mother revealed they were still waiting for an inquest date because no one had been able to unlock her mobile phone.
Sophie, who found fame in the 2016 series of ITV2 dating show Love Island, took her own life at her parents’ home in Northumberland last June.
Following news of Sophie’s death last year, her parents issued a statement saying they were heartbroken.
“It has been one week since we lost our precious daughter and we as a family are still coming to terms with our sudden loss.”
An inquest into Sophie’s death was scheduled for March 2019.
However, it has now been pushed back to 18th April after new information was brought to the attention of her parents.
According to the Mirror Online, Sophie’s parents had requested further time to consider a report they had only just received.
In February, Sophie’s mum Deborah tweeted to say: “As the heartbroken Mother of Sophie Gradon we are still waiting for an inquest date 8 months after her unexplained death. Why? Because the Police cannot open her iPhone for data extraction.”
She added later: “There’s a company in London called Cellubrite, this is where Sophie’s 2 phones are.
“They claim to be the only Co in the world with the software to open iPhones.
“The charge is £2500 per device. They are connected to a software program that trys’s every combination.”(sic)
Senior Coroner for Northumberland South, Eric Armstrong, said in a statement: “Please be advised that a new hearing date for the Inquest dealing with Sophie’s death has been arranged.
“Mr and Mrs Gradon have requested that the Inquest take place in their absence, and the Inquest has now been fixed for Thursday 18th April at 10.30am at Howard House.”
Just over a week ago, on March 19, Mr Armstrong ruled that Sophie’s boyfriend Aaron Armstrong took his own life after consuming alcohol and taking cocaine.
He was found dead at his Northumberland flat just five days after Sophie’s funeral last year.
