SHE’S just watched her business crumble before her eyes, so it’s no surprise Coronation Street’s Carla Connor feels a bit wobbly.
After the Underworld factory roof collapse — which left Rana Habeeb dead and half of Weatherfield unemployed — I’m told Carla will have a mental breakdown.
Things get so traumatic on the ITV soap that the knicker boss, played by Alison King, is hospitalised and put on anti-psychotic drugs.
And if that’s not bad enough, she chooses recovering alcoholic Peter Barlow to look after her when she’s discharged.
My cobbles source said: “It all gets a bit much for Carla in the aftermath of the roof collapse and the pressure on her to keep people in jobs and the factory open. She eventually has a huge mental breakdown.”
Viewers saw Rana die on her wedding day to Kate Connor, Carla’s half-sister, last week. And Carla is in the frame for causing her death after discovering the roof was faulty and getting Gary Windass in to do the work on the cheap.
Carla goes missing in the wake of the disaster, with viewers eventually discovering she’s been sectioned due to her behaviour. Peter also struggles with the tragedy and hits the bottle before going into rehab himself. But he decides to get clean so he can care for Carla.
The source added: “Before she’s discharged she is put on anti-psychotic drugs and told she needs someone to look after her around the clock. Much to her family’s confusion, she chooses Peter, with him quitting rehab to do so.”
That will surely end well.

She said: “My dad got knighted a few months ago and we went to Buckingham Palace. Prince Charles was knighting him, and I kept thinking to myself: ‘That is Josh, as an older man. He looks identical.’ Even his mannerisms are quite similar – and the way he talks to people, he’s very charming is Prince Charles. It was like Josh was knighting my dad. It was a very bizarre situation.”
Josh was thrilled when she told him this – and he jokingly pretended to be Charles as he “knighted” Daisy.
