SCAREDY-CAT cops looked completely quackers when they used riot shields to protect themselves from an angry “rogue” swan.
However, the feathered fiend was no jailbird – it had just strayed from its park home, and landed on a busy street.
Amusing photos show not one but THREE cops trying to manoeuvre the creature to safer territory by tempting it with chunks from a loaf of bread.
Clearly worried that there could be a bit of fowl play, cops protected themselves with a riot shield normally used to help control crowds in violent situations.
The stray bird had landed on a busy street in Greenock, Inverclyde in Scotland, about 200 metres from its normal home in Murdieston Park.
Two cops first at the “scene” armed themselves with riot shields and bread, before spending about 30 minutes shepherding the bird back home.
They were joined by one other officer, along with two police vans which helped guide the swan safely along Inverkip Road on Tuesday.
A gobsmacked Alison Robertson filmed the bizarre operation from her home.
She said: “From when it lands on the main road to getting it back up to the dam, the whole thing lasted about 30 minutes.
“I grew up on that street and this same thing happened every so often – if it wasn’t swans it was ducks.”
The video shows the cops surround the bird while using their shields to encourage the swan to walk along the pavement.
At one point in Alison’s video, the fed-up swan stops and the female officer gently uses the shield to nudge the bird’s tail feathers to help get it moving again.
As the bird then turns on to Old Inverkip Road, a kindhearted pedestrian tries feeding it bread. One of the policemen then holds on to the loaf for the rest of the trek.
In the video, the laid-back swan plods along at its own pace as police attempt to return it back to its reservoir home by feeding it pieces of bread every time it stops.
The footage ends with police directing the swan back to the park it lives in.
Alison uploaded her clip to Facebook with the caption: “Even the Swans in Greenock are mental.”
Karin Mcfadyen joked: “It’s not just the gals in Greenock that cause the drama then.”
Jillian Tipping wrote: “Honestly, riot shields. Don’t see them outside Word Up on a Saturday night but a Swan going for a wander warrants it. It’s laughable.”
Alexander Kerr commented: “To be fair, they [swans] are f****** terrifying.”
