RICKY Gervais has confirmed that he is in the process of writing series two of After Life, praising the “f***ing amazing” response from Netflix viewers, who have shared their enjoyment of the show.
The first six episodes of the comic’s latest TV show premiered on the online streaming site last month – and has received acclaim from critics and fans alike.
Taking to his Twitter page earlier today, 57-year-old Ricky wrote: “Thanks again for all the love for #AfterLife.
“I have never had a reaction like this. The reviews have been great but the response from viewers has been f***ing amazing.
“And that means so much more to me. You are the best fans in the world.
“Oh, and I’ve started writing series 2.”
Ricky wrote, directed, and starred in After Life, where her plays a local newspaper employee, Tony, who spirals into depression and becomes suicidal following the death of his wife.
To cope with his grief, Tony becomes rude and destructive – with the actor previously explaining that his character “turns into a psychopath so that he doesn’t feel pain anymore”.
Ricky added to Variety: “He’s really deeply in pain, this is a wounded animal.
“He gets drunk every night, he tries heroin, he tries being nasty, he tries therapy, but he just wants to feel better.”
The star also spoke out about wanting to make a second series of the show, telling The Daily Star Sunday: “I always give things a good conclusion in case I die, and that’s the case with After Life.
“But now I’ve thought about it, I would really like to do another series.
“I’ve got an idea of where it can go. The second series of anything you do is always better, usually because you know the actors.”
