A GROOM has asked strangers for donations in order to fund his dream wedding in Thailand.
Kristian Hatton, 39, from Lismore in northern New South Wales, set up a GoFundMe page last week in the hopes to raise the $6,000 (£3218) needed for his nuptials.
The cash-strapped groom is hoping to wed his partner of four years, Roongaroon Bootprom, 39, known as Nok in July.
Kristian explained on their GoFundMe page that they were previously forced to cancel their wedding last year which caused a lot of problems for Nok.
He wrote: ‘Cancelling a wedding is a terrible thing in Thailand, as the date is fixed by culture. Because we cancelled, my partner lost a lot of “face”.’
Kristian continued to explain that he is also working two jobs in a hope to boost their budget.
He wrote: “We knew it would be tight and difficult, but a few things got in the way with general living that have jeopardised things a bit. I am getting only $525 (£282) a week from two jobs.
“We’re massively behind and need to get ahead. We can’t cancel the wedding a second time. It’s all or nothing. We’re in this to win this.”
The couple shared the campaign on Facebook where they revealed they were having to make serious cutbacks.
Kristian wrote: “We are struggling a bit (no massive emergency but hungry on staples and without any sort of money as back-up in case s*** happens) in getting funds together for the wedding.
“We’d appreciate the extra hand, as we’ll also have to start raising visa costs for Nok after our wedding – that’s like $10,000.
“I don’t even have a car or anything right now too, so defo struggling. We can win as a group mind and thanks in advance for your help.
“I would prefer to not have to starve to death before the wedding and keep paying my rent and bills.
“It’s taken way too long to get to this point and it’s all or nothing for us.
“Please share with anyone who knows us and our story, or with any couple who has ever been poor in a long-term relationship and kept apart in different countries.”
With just over three months to go until the couples say their ‘I dos’, Kristian has saved less than half of the budget they need for their wedding.
Speaking to the Northern Star he said: “That means I would have to save at least $300 (£160) a week. That would mean I have to live off $180 (£96) per week.
“That’s kind of impossible with rent, food and bills. I will have to eat one meal a day in order to make things happen, basically.”
He added: “I’ve been doing everything I can from taking on extra jobs to participating in big poker matches to make it happen, but been digging myself a bit worse.”
The couple have now deleted their GoFundMe page for unknown reasons, having reached a total of just $155 (£83).
