RUSSIAN Doll star Charlie Barnett has been cast in the second series of Netflix’s You.
The actor will play Joe’s rival Gabe, who is the best friend of the serial killer’s new obsession, Love Quinn.
Announcing the casting on Twitter, Netflix wrote: “#RussianDoll co-star @CharlieBarnett has joined Season 2 of @YouNetflix!
“He’ll play Gabe, best friend to Love —the show’s new female lead played by Victoria Pedretti.”
The choice was championed by Russian Doll fans, who watched the actor play Alan Zaveri in the comedy drama alongside Natasha Lyonne.
The Netflix hit followed cynical New Yorker Nadia Vulvokov (Lyonne) as she attempted to unravel a strange time loop in which she died and ended up back at her birthday party.
Some joked they felt sorry for Charlie after landing his You role as his character will more than likely be in Joe’s firing line.
The stalker – played by Penn Badgley – killed girlfriend Guinevere Beck’s best friend Peaches Salinger in the first series after she threatened his relationship with her.
While season one was filmed in New York City, the second will follow Joe’s move to Los Angeles, where he falls for aspiring chef Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti).
Co-creator Sera Gamble previously told Vanity Fair there will be plot lines from novel Hidden Bodies, the sequel to Caroline Kepnes’ first book, You.
She dished: “There’s a lot of great material in the second book that we’re gonna do, starting with being in Los Angeles.”
She added: “It so happened [with Season 1] that a lot of stuff remained intact, but the guiding principle has always been to kind of bring to life the spirit of the story and not to obsess too much over plot details….
“Caroline has always been on board with that, and I think that’s going to continue to be the path in Season 2.”
