Ange Postecoglou has finally broken the silence with an update on the return date of three of Spurs’ centre-backs – Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies.
Tottenham Hotspur’s lack of defensive depth has been well documented this season, a problem that has been exacerbated by injuries to four of their defenders—Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, and Ben Davies.
Romero and van de Ven, in particular, have been pivotal to Tottenham’s defensive efforts since the start of the season.
Both players bring a commanding presence and composure that allows Ange Postecoglou’s side to play with confidence and fluidity in their build-up play, but their absence has coincided with a noticeable dip in defensive solidity and results.
Now, after weeks of speculation and uncertainty, Postecoglou has provided a concrete timeline for their potential return.
Addressing the press ahead of Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures, manager Ange Postecoglou offered clarity on the status of his injured defenders, including Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies.

Postecoglou’s timeline suggests that the injured defenders will miss several crucial matches, including the Premier League clash against Newcastle United, the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool on 8 January, and the FA Cup third-round tie against Tamworth on 12 January.
The trio are also unlikely to feature in the North London derby against Arsenal on 15 January. However, fans might look forward to their potential return in late January, with the following three fixtures:
These fixtures, though perhaps less headline-grabbing, could provide the perfect platform for the trio to regain match fitness and re-establish their defensive partnership.
