One of Europe’s most talented attackers, Dani Olmo, could be on the market in January, owing to legal complications, with Tottenham Hotspur ready to pounce.
Dani Olmo, who came through the Barcelona youth academy, made a fairytale return to his boyhood club back in the summer, with the Catalan club paying €60m (£49.5m) to sign him from RB Leipzig.
However, his dream move now runs the risk of turning into a nightmare as reports indicate that he could become a free agent owing to a court ruling against Barca this week.
This report comes from Mundo Deportivo, who say that if the issue is not resolved, the La Liga giants may not be able to register the 26-year-old, thus allowing others to land him on a free transfer.
The outlet reveals that Spurs are one of several clubs watching Olmo‘s situation, with the North London side said to have ‘made enquiries’ about the player.
The report claims that the Spain international is now quickly becoming one of the ‘great desires’ of the January market, with several teams, including the Lilywhites, keen on securing him on a free transfer if the opportunity arises.
However, it is explained that Olmo’s priority remains to see out his current deal with Barca, which runs until 2030. The publication adds that if the 26-year-old is forced to leave Camp Nou, it would be ‘the biggest disappointment of his career’.
One can be certain that a number of elite clubs across Europe will be joining the queue to land Olmo should Barca not be allowed to register the attacker and the player becomes available on a free.
It is not often that a player of the Spaniard’s quality and experience is available for nothing. A number of cash-strapped La Liga and Serie A clubs will do all they can to get the deal over the line, as will a few Premier League sides.
Tottenham will find it difficult to attract the former RB Leipzig man, given that they are not in the Champions League and look unlikely to qualify again for next season’s competition.
