Tottenham insider Paul O Keefe names the four positions that Spurs are looking to strengthen in the January transfer window and the specific attributes they are looking for in the newcomers.
Based on the reports over the last few weeks, it would seem as if Spurs are expected to be among the busiest clubs in the Premier League in terms of incomings, with the club’s hierarchy planning on backing Ange Postecoglou with significant reinforcements.
A couple of days ago, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reported that Tottenham are looking for a new centre-back, a left-back and a midfielder, while also pointing out that Postecoglou has spoken about the need to reinforce his forward line.
Additionally, he suggested that the Lilywhites are also looking for cover in goal, with Fraser Forster‘s inability to sweep up behind a high defensive line seen as a big weakness.
Paul O Keefe, who has his finger on the pulse of the internal happenings at Hotspur Way, has now made a very similar claim to Gold.
He took to social media to reveal that Tottenham want a goalkeeper, centre-back, centre forward and winger to arrive through the door before the end of the January transfer window deadline.
Interestingly, O Keefe added that Postecoglou’s men will be looking to sign players who can offer versatility and have played in high-tempo sides before.
One can understand the club’s thinking in signing players who come from a high-tempo, front-foot system as that would mean that they adapt quicker to the demands of Tottenham’s system and would be less injury-prone.
It is for the same logic that the North London side may prefer players with Premier League experience under their belt.
The club’s rumoured interest in Jack Grealish makes a lot of sense in that context as he comes from a side which plays aggressively, has plenty of Premier League experience, and is capable of playing centrally or on the flanks.
