Tottenham may have to act fast if they wish to sign one of their rumoured centre-back targets as the player is now the subject of an offer from Leeds United.
The player in question is Abdukodir Khusanov, who was a completely unknown quantity when he joined Lens 18 months ago but is now quickly forging a reputation as one of the best young centre-backs in French football.
It continues to be widely reported that Spurs are keen on bolstering their defence in January, with the 20-year-old said to be one of the names at the top of their wishlist.
However, it has emerged over recent days that Newcastle are also keen on securing the Uzbekistan international and are ready to push ahead with a move for him.
Top Mercato have now backed up Tottenham’s and Newcastle’s interest in Khusanov, but they claim that a Championship outfit have become the first club to make a move for the defender.
It is revealed that in an effort to steal a march on the competition, Leeds United have now pressed ahead with a €20m (£16.6m) offer for the youngster.
The report says that Daniel Farke’s men are keen on adding a central defender to their squad and see the Lens man as someone who can aid their promotion push.
Additionally, the outlet adds that the Ligue 1 side need to raise €44m (£36.5m) to offset their losses and are thus ready to cash in on the centre-back.
It would not be too difficult for Spurs to beat Leeds to the Lens starlet’s signature, with the Lilywhites capable of blowing the Championship club out of the water financially and also being a much more attractive destination.
However, Ange Postecoglou‘s men may opt to sign a versatile left-footed centre-back, who can also fill in as a left-back if required.
