An absolutely unbelievable stat has emerged regarding Tottenham, which shows just how much they have under-performed when compared to previous seasons.
Tottenham’s season continues to go from bad to worse, with the Lilywhites falling to their ninth defeat in 18 league matches against Nottingham Forest on Thursday.
It is the kind of record that would have likely seen the back of any other Spurs manager over the last decade and a half.
However, Ange Postecoglou is still hanging on, perhaps because the club’s hierarchy realise that he is dealing with a major injury crisis at an extremely busy point in the season.
On the back of Tottenham’s defeat at the City Ground, they can mathematically no longer match their record Premier League points tally even if they win all their games from now until the end of the season.
Even if the Spurs win all their remaining 20 games, they will only end up with 83 points, which is three short of the 86 points that they amassed during the 2016-17 season.
It is quite an astounding stat when one considers that we are just halfway into the season, with this campaign now having a disaster written all over it.
While one cannot help but sympathise with Postecoglou, given the club’s current injury situation, it is now getting to a point where the excuse will not hold water for too long.
If this poor run continues for another few weeks, it will get to a point where the Tottenham hierarchy will be irresponsible if they do not make a managerial change.
More consequentially, if the Spurs top brass do have doubts over whether Postecoglou is the right man to turn things around, they might think twice about giving him the signings he wants in January.
