The Athletic’s Jay Harris has given his two cents on the rumours linking Marcus Rashford to Tottenham and explained the factors that the Lilywhites would be considering ahead of a potential move for the Man United man.
Rashford has not featured for Man Utd since Ruben Amorim took over as head coach and a divorce between the forward and his boyhood club appears inevitable.
Reports over the last week have named Tottenham as one of the clubs who are exploring a move for the England international along with Juventus and Bayern Munich.
As one would expect, Ange Postecoglou was reluctant to get drawn into the rumours, stating bluntly that the 27-year-old is a United player when asked about the transfer speculation.
The Athletic’s Jay Harris has now confirmed that Tottenham will indeed look to reinforce their attack in the upcoming transfer window.
However, the journalist suggested that Rashford is ‘unlikely’ to be at the top of Spurs wishlist as the Lilywhites will look to target players under the age of 23.
Harris added that Rashford’s £325,000-a-week contract would also be a stumbling block for Tottenham while also pointing out that the Man Utd man prefers playing on the left, which is also the preferred position of Heung-min Son, Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert.
There is simply no chance that Spurs would break their wage structure for Rashford, which means that the only way this deal can happen is if the Man Utd man agrees to take a significant wage cut.
The England international also does not feel like a typical Postecoglou player as there have been question marks about his work rate out of possession, which is a non-negotiable for the Tottenham boss.
