It has now emerged that Tottenham Hotspur may be handed a golden opportunity to sign one of their transfer targets on the cheap in the upcoming transfer window.
Tyrick Mitchell has been a regular in Oliver Glasner’s starting lineup this season, operating as a left wing-back, with the 25-year-old having three assists to his name so far in 2024-25.
However, his future at Selhurst Park is in doubt as his current contract runs out at the end of the season.
Just a few days ago, reports emerged that Tottenham, Chelsea and Barcelona are all keeping tabs on the Englishman’s situation and are plotting a move.
TBR Football have now claimed that Spurs have been offered a chance to sign Mitchell as a free agent at the end of the season, presumably by the player’s agent.
However, interestingly, the outlet says that the Eagles may be prepared to offer Tottenham the chance to sign the defender for a cut-price fee in January as they do not want to lose him on a free in the summer.
Contract talks between the parties have allegedly failed to progress, thus potentially handing Spurs a lucrative opportunity.
The outlet also points to the fact that Palace have been linked with left-backs such as Benfica’s Jan-Niklas Beste and Slavia Prague’s El Hadji Malick Diouf as evidence that Mitchell might be set for a January exit.
If you had asked Ange Postecoglou a few weeks ago, he might have felt that signing a left-back was a priority for Spurs in January.
However, Djed Spence has grabbed his opportunities with both hands and has arguably been Tottenham’s best player over the last three games. That might have potentially cooled Spurs’ interest in the likes of Mitchell and Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu.
