Tottenham Hotspur made a scouting mission to Spain to check on Johnny Cardoso over the weekend, but the North London were reportedly also paying close attention to one of his Real Betis teammates.
Tottenham have the option to sign Cardoso for £25m at the end of this season, which they acquired while striking a deal with Betis over Giovani Lo Celso’s return to the Spanish side.
The Lilywhites face a big decision on whether to activate the option to sign the 23-year-old next summer and Ange Postecoglou may be tempted to do so, given that Yves Bissouma has not set the world alight this season.
Interestingly, it turns out that Cardoso is not the only Betis player that Tottenham currently have their eye on.
Relevo now report that scouts from Tottenham made the trip to Benito Villamarin over the weekend to watch Betis’ 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano.
However, it is not just the USA international that Spurs wanted to run the rule on, but also his teammate, Vitor Roque.
Roque is on loan from Barcelona, but Betis have the option to extend his loan by another year as well as the option to sign him permanently for €25m (£20.7m) in the summer.
The 19-year-old is having an impressive season, having scored six times and provided two assists so far.
It remains to be seen if Betis would be willing to sign Roque and potentially sell him on for a profit to Spurs. Relevo state that as things stand, Manuel Pellegrini’s men are reluctant to let the teenager go.
However, it is pointed out that the club have to raise €20m (£16.5m) before June to offset their losses and might thus have to cash in on some of their players.
