Fenerbahce could offer one Tottenham Hotspur man an escape route in the upcoming transfer window at the behest of Jose Mourinho.
It has been clear for a while that Sergio Reguilon‘s time at Tottenham Hotspur is now up, with many left surprised when the left-back stayed put at the club in the summer.
He has watched on from the sidelines for much of the season, but he eventually made his first appearance of the season on Thursday in Spurs‘ Carabao Cup quarterfinal against Manchester United, coming on as a late substitute.
That is likely to be the 27-year-old’s final game in Tottenham colours and he reacted with a humours post on social media after finally taking to the field this season.
It has now been reported by AS that Jose Mourinho, who was the man who signed Reguilon at Tottenham back in 2020, wants to reunite with the Spaniard at Fenerbahce.
The report explains that the Turkish club’s left-back Jaden Oostervolde has now suffered an injury and is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season.
The Portuguese coach has thus asked the club’s hierarchy to sign one of either Reguilon or AS Roma’s Mario Hermoso.
The outlet suggests that a deal for the Tottenham man would not be complicated to pull off for the Istanbul side, given his current predicament at Spurs.
One suspects that Reguilon would prefer to return to Spain over moving to the Turkish top-flight. Given the left-back’s exploits in La Liga, a number of Spanish sides will surely join the race for the defender.
However, we know that the former Real Madrid man has an excellent relationship with Mourinho and the former Spurs boss could convince him to make the switch to Fenerbahce.
