Spurs could be handed a major boost for their trip to Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day as Ange Postecoglou reveals an update on Destiny Udogie.
Spurs had to make do without four of their first-choice back five over recent matches, with Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie all out injured.
Liverpool punished a makeshift Tottenham backline on Sunday, with the league leaders managing to put six past the home side.
Spurs will now have to pick themselves up for a big clash at the City Ground on Boxing Day, but they could be boosted with the return of two of their starters.
Tottenham will be able to welcome back Rodrigo Bentancur against Forest, with the Uruguayan now having served his seven-match suspension.
Postecoglou suggested that Destiny Udogie also has a chance of featuring in the Midlands after missing Spurs’ last two games against Man Utd and Liverpool.
When asked if Bentancur and Udogie would be fit for Thursday’s game, the Spurs head coach told Football.London: “Hopefully, Destiny will be okay. He wasn’t quite right today, we had him on the bench, hopefully, he’ll be closer to it. They are the main two at the moment.
“We’re kind of hoping Ben Davies, Mikey Moore and Richarlison aren’t too far away after that but, for Thursday, it’s probably just Destiny and Rodrigo.”
Djed Spence has impressed at left-back whenever he has played this season, and it is not obvious if Udogie’s return significantly improves the Tottenham starting eleven.
However, Bentancur’s return most certainly does, with the former Juventus man offering a lot more in possession than either Yves Bissouma or Pape Sarr can.
While Bissouma and Sarr have great energy, neither of them has the ability to consistently progress the ball from the defence to the attacking players, which is something that has severely hamstrung Spurs over recent weeks.
