Tottenham’s pursuit of one Serie A star might have just got a lot harder after Pep Guardiola told the Man City hierarchy that he wants the player.
The player in question is AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders, who has evolved into one of the Rossoneri’s most important players since arriving at the club from AZ Alkmaar 18 months ago.
Reports over recent months have claimed that Ange Postecoglou‘s men have identified the Dutchman as the ideal option to bolster their midfield.
However, it has also been suggested by various sources that Milan are keen to tie the 27-year-old down to a new deal to ward off any transfer interest.
Fichajes have now offered Spurs a blow by revealing that Manchester City are now set to make advances towards the Milan star.
It is revealed that Pep Guardiola has been mightily impressed with Reijnders‘ displays at the San Siro this season, with the Spanish coach awestruck by the midfielder’s ‘precision and elegance’.
Guardiola reportedly believes that the Netherlands international would be a ‘perfect fit’ for his system and asked the City hierarchy to do what it takes to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.
The outlet says that City’s interest in the former AZ Alkmaar man is ‘solid’ and that the Manchester club would ‘spare no expense’ to secure him in the upcoming transfer window.
It is alleged that the Premier League champions could make an offer of close to €50m (£41.4m), which could be enough to convince Milan to sell their talisman.
The publication adds that Reijnders’s future with the Rossoneri is now ‘uncertain’ as ‘all signs point’ to the player taking ‘a significant leap towards the Premier League’.
