One La Liga club’s supremo has made it clear that one Tottenham target will not be leaving the side in the January transfer window.
Given the injury-prone nature of Tottenham’s first-choice centre-back pairing, it does not come as a surprise to hear that the North London club are being backed to enter the market for a centre-back in January.
It has been widely reported over the last week that Ange Postecoglou‘s men have identified Getafe’s Omar Alderete as one of their top targets.
Some outlets have suggested that the North London club have already made advances towards a deal for the 27-year-old.
It has even emerged over the last few days that the centre-back has a release clause of just £13m in his contract, which makes him a very affordable option for Spurs.
However, Getafe president Angel Torres has now confidently asserted that the centre-back will remain at the Estadio Coliseum at least until the end of the season.
Torres told Marca: “The fans can rest assured that Alderete will be here until June. He is happy. We are not going to touch the goal, defence and midfield unless someone pays the clause.”
The fact is that Getafe would be powerless to stop Alderete from leaving if someone pays the £13m clause, which several clubs across Europe would be tempted to do.
The Paraguay international’s head could easily be turned if a big Premier League side like Spurs come in for him in January.
The Getafe president’s promise thus seems quite strange and appears to simply be an effort to appease the club’s fan base.
