Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on one left-back who is turning a lot of heads in Belgium, but the Lilywhites are not the only ones who have been alerted by his performances.
Tottenham lack a natural understudy to Destiny Udogie, with Djed Spence being used at left-back on a few occasions by Ange Postecoglou this season.
The club have thus been backed to enter the market for reinforcements in that area, with some sources suggesting over recent weeks that Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu is of interest to the side.
It has now emerged that a 23-year-old left-sided player has caught the attention of Ange Postecoglou’s men ahead of the January transfer window.
The player in question is Maxim de Cuyper, whose impressive displays for Club Brugge have reportedly brought him onto the radars of a number of English sides, according to TBR Football.
The report names Spurs are admirers of the full-back, who is blessed with an extremely cultured left foot, while Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City are also said to be keeping an eye on him.
It is revealed that the Belgian international is valued at £17m, which is why he is seen as an ‘affordable’ option by many of these sides.
De Cuyper‘s agent Axel Vergeylen recently addressed the media about the speculation over his client’s future and he opened the door for a potential transfer.
In fact, Vergeylen even confirmed that a number of sides had shown interest in the young defender.
He said (via Numero Diez): “A player like Maxim attracts a lot of interest. Without a doubt, also in Italy. For obvious reasons, I can’t go into the names of the interested clubs. But Serie A is certainly a big league.
“He has to go step by step. At the moment, that is at Club Brugge. And, at the right moment, he has to take the next step in his career. The only goal is to reach as high as possible and play for the best possible club.”
