Tottenham Hotspur reportedly face competition from Manchester United for one experienced star that they have their eye on.
It has been widely reported that the Lilywhites are now studying various goalkeeping options on the market, given the long-term injury to Guglielmo Vicario and the fact that Fraser Forster‘s current deal runs out next summer.
According to reports over recent days, one of the names on the Lilywhites’ wishlist is goalkeeper John Victor, who is the first-choice between the sticks at Brazilian side Botafogo.
The 28-year-old, who is simply known as John, has previously had a spell with Valladolid in Spain and is now thought to be in line for a return to Europe.
CaughtOffside have now backed up Spurs‘ interest in John, revealing that the Lilywhites and Man Utd are both expected to push ahead with a move for the goalkeeper.
It is explained that the Brazilian is now on the radar of a number of clubs, with several European sides thought to have scouted him over recent weeks, including Galatasaray.
However, as things stand, Spurs and Man Utd have reportedly shown the strongest interest, with the two Premier League set to open talks over a deal ‘soon’.
The outlet adds that Botafogo would likely ask for around €9m-€10m (£7.4m-£8.2m) for their number one in next month’s transfer window.
While Tottenham would have initially planned to sign a replacement for Forster in the summer, they might have brought forward their plans in light of the injury to Vicario.
However, the club’s decision-makers will likely prefer an English goalkeeper as the Italian’s understudy as they would not want to waste a non-homegrown spot on a backup goalkeeper.
