Journalist Miguel Delaney reveals what Daniel Levy is thinking about Tottenham’s current predicament and about Ange Postecoglou’s future, explaining that one Premier League boss is in Spurs’ sights.
At the moment, it does not appear that Ange Postecoglou is in any immediate danger of the sack, with service as usual at the moment for the Australian at Hotspur Way.
Tottenham’s 5-0 win over Southampton has temporarily taken some pressure off the Spurs head coach, but he will be aware that the team needs to find some consistency if he is to remain on the hot seat over the long term.
It has even been reported that Postecoglou has held several meetings with Johan Lange to discuss the club’s January targets, which suggests that the Lilywhites hierarchy plan on seeing this project through.
It has been reported by some reputed journalists over recent days that Postecoglou still has the support of Levy and the decision-makers at Tottenham.
This includes David Ornstein, who has revealed that the Spurs hierarchy sees this as a long-term project and despite the noise coming from the outside, Postecoglou has a lot of support internally.
This information has now been backed by Miguel Delaney, who explained that Levy is aware of the wide sentiment among the Tottenham fan base. However, he explained that Spurs have been keeping an eye on Fulham boss Marco Silva.
Delaney wrote on Reading the Game newsletter for The Independent: “Speculation is now swirling around Ange Postecoglou. Spurs are known to have been looking at Marco Silva… Daniel Levy, however, is also aware of wider fan sentiment. There are issues with Postecoglou’s coaching but supporters generally want to try something different and persist.”
While Postecoglou’s future does not appear to be in any immediate danger, Tottenham would have some contingency plans in place if results do not improve and might have even discussed potential replacements.
The jury is out on whether Silva would be a good fit. While there is no doubt that the Portuguese coach is a good coach, whose teams are always well-drilled, his CV certainly does not leap out off the page.
Hull City were relegated under his watch, and he also left both Watford and Everton in unenviable positions when he departed those clubs.
