Yang Min-hyeok reveals what message he has received from the Tottenham coaching staff and how he has prepared for his upcoming challenge in North London.
Tottenham now boast a number of extremely talented young players in their squad, with big things expected of teenagers such as Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert and Mikey Moore.
One more starlet is now set to arrive at Hotspur Way, with Yang making the switch to the club after an outstanding debut season in the K-League.
While the 18-year-old is still raw, Spurs fans will be hoping that the teenager can go on to fulfil his potential under the watchful eyes of Ange Postecoglou.
Yang admits that he is dreaming of playing alongside his idol and compatriot, Heung-min Son, and also shares the message that Postecoglou and the coaching staff gave him ahead of his switch. Rather amusingly, it appears Ange told the youngster to stay injury-free amidst Tottenham’s current crisis.
When asked if he is in continual conversation with his national team captain, the teenager said (via Joel Kim): “After the national team match, we haven’t kept in touch or anything; that was probably the last time. If I get the chance to play with him, it would truly be an honour, and I’d approach it with gratitude.
“I’ve imagined scenarios like that, and I want to quickly go there to showcase my skills and play together. Friends and teammates encouraged me to perform as well as I did in the K-League. I’ve been in contact with the coach and staff too. The coach told me to stay injury-free and continue doing what I’ve been showing.”
The youngster admits that he was so excited ahead of his move to London that he barely got any sleep on Sunday. When asked about his feelings, Yang said: “It seems like a mixture of excitement and anticipation. Ah, I couldn’t sleep well, so I watched the Tottenham match for a bit.”
Tottenham’s players have been dropping like flies of late and Yang would be aware that he needs to be extremely fit to cope with the demands of Postecoglou’s training sessions. The winger confessed that he has been working hard on his fitness, revealing that he goes to Spurs at close to full readiness.
Yang added: “Personally, I’ve been focusing on mental preparation and maintaining my physical fitness, including weight training.
“Since I’ll be joining midway through the season, I’m focusing on rest to avoid injuries while keeping up light workouts to prepare.”I’d say I’m at about 80–90% readiness.”
