Two Tottenham players have made it into Harry Redknapp’s Team of the Week, with the former Spurs manager claiming that Ange Postecoglou would have been mightily impressed with one youngster.
A number of key starters are out with injuries for Tottenham at the moment while Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur were also unavailable for Sunday’s clash due to suspension.
As a result, Postecoglou named a makeshift side, which featured several inexperienced players, but the ones who came into the team stood up and showed that they could be counted upon.
The Lilywhites blew the home side away, putting the game to bed in the first half with five goals, with the Australian having plenty of positives to take from the performance.
Redknapp was impressed with what he saw from Djed Spence in his first competitive start for Tottenham.
The right-back took just 30 seconds to make an impact, going on a terrific run at the start of the game before setting up James Maddison‘s opener with a lovely through ball.
Redknapp believes that the 24-year-old’s showing would have made a serious impression on Postecoglou.
The former Spurs manager told BetVictor: “Djed Spence came into the side in what was his first competitive start for Tottenham, he was superb. He set up the opener and was heavily involved throughout the game.
“He shifted over to the left later in the game and looked decent there too, Ange Postecoglou is bound to have been impressed by that performance.”
The 77-year-old was also complimentary of James Maddison, who scored twice and had a hand in another of Spurs’ goals, with the 28-year-old also finding a place in Redknapp‘s Team of the Week.
He added: “Heung-Min Son was terrific, but I’m picking James Maddison from Tottenham. As bad as Southampton were in that first half, I thought Spurs were brilliant.
“He was superb, and he took his goals so well, particularly that second. I just wish we’d see this more often from Spurs!”
