Richard Keys admits that Tottenham proved him wrong with their second-half performance against Brighton and he has now made a confident prediction about the North London side.
At the half-time interval on Sunday, many Spurs fans would have been forgiven for getting excited about what was brewing at the club.
The side were in complete control of the game in the first period and looked well on their way to a sixth consecutive win across all competitions.
However, what followed was a disastrous 20-minute spell at the start of the second half, which showed that the Lilywhites still have a very long way to go before they can have ambitions of competing with the best teams in the league.
Keys admitted that he too was quite excited about Tottenham at the half-time interval at the Amex Stadium but labelled the club’s second-half display as ‘very Spursy’.
He boldly suggested that the North London side will never win a Premier League title.
He wrote in his personal blog: “What’s going on at Spurs? Not only did they make complete fools of themselves at Brighton – they did me as well.
“I really enjoyed watching them in the first 45 at the Amex and said so on beIN SPORTS. They were good. And on the back of the win at Old Trafford, I found myself thinking they might just have got it right at long last.
“But oh no. The wheels came off again second half in a very Spursy way. What is it about them? No wonder big Ange couldn’t take his eyes off the floor when he spoke afterwards!
“At best – they might win another cup one day, but it looks as though Fergie was right all those years ago – they’ll never win the title again.”
The nature of the footballing media landscape is such that all sides are either doing brilliantly or in a crisis, with a result or two enough to completely change the narrative.
While the second-half performance from Tottenham was the poorest we have seen from the side on Sunday, we have seen enough from Ange Postecoglou’s men to suggest that they are on the right path.
